the cottage {part 1}

the creek of the cottage door waking us up...which niece or nephew is the first one awake?
the smell of coffee and bacon...who's cooking breakfast for everyone today?
the ease of putting on a bathing suit each morning, still damp from the lake swim the evening before
the walk between all the cottages, to see how everyone slept
the sun rays and summer heat evident by the brown noses and arms of everyone
the sight of naked little bodies running in and out of the water, clothes becoming an inconvenience and no longer a necessity
the delight in watching the cousins playing together, memories and bonds being formed
the luxury of closing ones eyes and drifting off in a sun-saturated doze on the beach, never quite tuning out the splashes in the water or the conversations of those around you
the refreshing plunge jumping off the dock
the refreshing sip of the afternoon gin and tonic
the sound of tunes coming from a cottage...accompanied by dancing and cooking
the smell of the bonfire, silhouettes around the fire, stories told, songs are sung
signaling the summer's day is drawing to a close
