viva.

A few weekends ago, we all packed in the car and drove four hours into the hot desert to meet up with Shannon and Jamie in Las Vegas. With the ocean behind us, and the dry, desert ahead of us I thought about how I used to look at families walking along the strip in Vegas with their kids in tow and think what are they thinking bringing their kids here!?!?
And then next thing I know, we are 'those people'. And with a 3 month old too!! But what a blast it was! A day spent catching up with my sister as we pushed Vincent in the stroller, Travis off with George exploring.  Then, the fun really began when Shannon and I popped open the champagne and got ready for a night on the town.  Nothing like spending a night out (actually 2 1/2 hours before my motherly duties beckoned me back to the room) with my sista. But really, that's all I needed.
After those couple hours filled with silly moments, laughs, and just being out with my sister, I was so content to get back to our room, take off my heels and get cozy in my pj's and just cuddle with my little guys in the hotel room. So as Travis and I handed off parenting duties for the evening and he headed out with my brother-in-law and sister for the night, George filled me in on all that he did with Travis that afternoon and evening. The pirate show he watched, the volcano explosion that he was warmed by, the circus that amazed him, and most importantly to him, the motorcycle he rode at the arcade.
As I nursed Vincent, and listened to George recount the wonders of the day, I looked out the window to the city that never sleeps.  I watched the line of taxi cabs, the Bellagio waterfall, the blinking of millions of lights and the stream of thousands of people below us just starting out on their Friday night.  I thought about how happy I was up here in the hotel room, away from that commotion.  Just George's sweet voice and Vincent's sweet cooing in our quiet room.
I felt even happier when I heard a knock on the door and through the peek hole saw my sister. In her track pants, snacks in her hands, and joining me in the room. Forgetting about Las Vegas, and instead just hanging out at 8:30pm on a Friday night together.
