Some photos of around the house lately...
::A candle sitting among coffee beans gives off the most loveliest of smells...an idea I saw in Anthropologie.
::Some painting projects using some pretty intense colors.
::A baby that I just cannot stop smothering in kisses. One look at me from that sweet face and he has my full attention.
::George cannot seem to figure out this autumn weather, thus the hat combined with shorts and a long sleeved shirt.
::A corner of the dining room that Olive and I rearranged when she was out here visiting.
::A candle lit and some good books...two of my favorite things!
A few days ago the clouds rolled in from the ocean, and with them came the first signs of autumn. Subtle and slight signs when one lives in Los Angeles, but it has arrived. This time of year I eagerly await the early sunsets, when I can light some candles, turn on the jazz, and try out the more 'wintery' recipes that suit the harvest and mood of fall. Our evening walks to the bluffs now require a sweater and the air feels so fresh on these evenings. The view of the ocean and beyond seems clearer as if this cool air has cleared away any haze. We have dusted off the heater, and now it clicks and flickers off and on, heating our little abode through the night. The floor is cold as I tiptoe to the boys' room to check on them in the night. The extra quilt is now on our bed and I wrap a blanket around both Vincent and I as I nurse him on the rocking chair in the night, enjoying the warmth that his little body gives me. And then, come morning, the sun peeks through the windows and is quick to warm us. The slippers come off, the windows are soon opened and the short-sleeved shirts are on. These signs of autumn are subtle when living here, but they are certainly embraced.
