if only.

I wish you could come over today for a little visit.
If you could come over, I would boil us some coffee and top it with clouds of steaming milk.
If you could come over, George and I would wake up early and make these delicious ricotta and cocoa muffins for us to enjoy.
If you could come over, I would pick all the white roses from the backyard, as many fragrant blossoms as the vases and bottles could fill.
If you could come over, I would give you a big hug and say that we will figure out a plan and that things are going to be okay.
If you could come over we would take a moment to thank God for the things that bring us happiness in life and pray for all the things that fill us with worry and angst.
If you could come over we would laugh together, and things would feel okay.
If you could come over we would forget about the 'to do's' on our list for the day.
If you could come over our conversations would flow from one topic to the next, from the serious to the silly.
If you could come over we would talk about family and how every person, every family has their challenges, their strife.  We would talk about how best we could help each other and help one another.       If you could come over we would talk about how important it is to work together, how we need to stay positive despite the overwhelming obstacles.
If you could come over we would talk about how precious life is, how each day is a gift we are given and it is our choice in how we deal with the challenges that that day brings.
We would savor every sip, every bite, every word.
We would bask in the warm sunshine streaming through the windows and take a moment to listen to the birds singing outside.
And after our visit, we would feel comfort and joy knowing that we are there for each other.

If only you could come over.
